Assessment for conscious sedation: what can your nurse do?

Teaching and Learning: An online presentation and discussion with an opportunity for questions.
Aims and Objectives:
- To have increased knowledge of how to gain accurate and detailed information about the patient’s medical history
- To have increased knowledge of the role of the dental nurse in conscious sedation
- To have increased knowledge of medical conditions that may impact on the provision of conscious sedation
- To know the importance of guidelines for sedation in primary care

Senior Dental Nurse/Sedation Nurse Lead
Lisa's Biography
Lisa is a Senior Dental Nurse/Sedation Nurse Lead working at the Hertfordshire Special Care Dental Service. Hertfordshire HCT NHS Trust.
Lisas main responsibilities include in house sedation related training, audit and running the service alongside the sedation Lead Consultant.
Her post qualifications include Conscious Sedation, Special Care Dentistry, Oral Health promotion and Radiography. She also has training in CBT and use this skill with a clinic working with Dentally Anxious Patients with additional needs.
Lisa also has a teaching qualification (PTTLLS), which she gained several years ago and taught on the NEBDN Dental Nursing Course. Teaching and sharing knowledge is a particular interest and she is keen to expand the training and interest for dental professionals.
Recently Lisa has been given the privilege of being part of the DSTG group as a DCP. She hopes to promote the importance and training for other DCPS.

Kathryn's Biography
Kate Taylor is Chair of DSTG and Professor/Hon Consultant in Oral Surgery at University of Central Lancashire/Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She did the PG Diploma from Newcastle and since then has been actively involved in conscious sedation provision and training.
She teaches conscious sedation to undergraduates and postgraduates and is developing postgraduate training at UCLan. Kate provides CPD in conscious sedation in the North West region and has developed the sedations service at UCLan.
